A contemporary house set on acres of rolling hills in Stow, MA is the setting for this nature loving, colorful living space. The client, an executive in environmental non-profits, wanted to bring the outdoors inside with colors of nature. They like to entertain casually so the furnishings are durable and comfortable, especially important for standing up to their two Golden Retrievers. Kravet Smart furniture kept the
Having recently returned from a trip to the Northwest, my iPad is filled with images of rich green trees, deep blue lakes and the pastels of the sky at dusk and dawn. Brightly colored dahlias on my dining room table spur me to infuse my design work with nature’s palette. Mother Nature illustrates the rainbow of color and then a wonderful spectrum within each – dozens of blue hues from cerulean to periwinkle to midnight, pretty pinks from carnation to watermelon to rose quartz.
The design industry has gone from low voltage halogen, a nice daylight colored light that emits too much heat in these summer months, past the unfulfilled promise of flickering fluorescent, to long-lasting LED light. So embrace those funny new bulbs in the hardware store. Yes, they are more expensive but last 10 times longer. LEDs are fully dimmable, emit a nice clean light and will save you big on electricity bills. Plus LEDs tiny size has opened up a whole new Disney world of design possibilities. LED strips are as thin as a band-aid and can wrap around a curvy bannister. LED’s can rotate through a series of colors. So have fun in your swimming pool at night, explore party decorations or chroma therapy in your shower.

Naked shelves can be dramatically enhanced and fireplaces can be adorned with beloved objects. Do you have a collection that you want to showcase? There are definitely ways to tastefully arrange objects to bring out the best composition. There should be a clear focal point.

Last weekend I went to the Riverfest in Cambridge and walked through the display tents. Yogibo was overflowing with kids – a total kid magnet. We sat on the bean bag chairs and rested, too. What made this furniture so much fun were the bright color choices and the enveloping comfort on your body, conforming to your shape. I can easily picture these pieces in media rooms, play rooms, kids’ bedrooms and other family spaces.

The Doctor's office and waiting room is coming together. Here's a close up of the rug, my color anchor. The adjoining two rooms have sister rugs from the same small village, in Persia. They are woven in the same colors with some variation of the geometric pattern. Please pardon my blurry iPhone shot of the waiting room. I painted the walls with three glowing values
